With two scheduled NYC stops, Toronto MC Drake saved the best for last when he took the stage at Radio City Music Hall. After bringing his Light Dreams and Nightmares tour to the Big Apple on Tuesday night (September 28), Drizzy returned in full force yesterday, recruiting such big name collaborators as Fabolous, Trey Songz, Birdman Swizz Beatz and Jay-Z.
The curtain rose at about 9:15 p.m. as Drake’s full-band strummed up the melody to “9 a.m. in Dallas”— a Thank Me Later outtake. Starting out subdued rhyming with his back to the crowd, the Young Money/Cash Money soldier then jumped into an energetic rendition of “Forever” before turning things all the way up with “Up All Night.” The Radio City stage turned particularly festive thanks to the pyrotechnic effects used on “Fireworks” and later again while the MC rocked his single “Over.”
As far as guests go, Mack Maine and opening act Tyga converged on stage to do “Bedrock,” and Birdman strutted out to the tune of “Money To Blow.” Fabolous and Drake seized the opportunity to perform “Throw It In The Bag (Remix)” [watch below] the pair’s lone collaboration and Swizz Beatz came out to do the hook on “Fancy.”
The night’s biggest thrill is when Jay-Z emerged from the back of the stage to spit his verse to Drizzy’s “Light Up” [watch below] and perform his own single “On To The Next One.”
